Balance

Hi people of the light,

Our ego sometimes wants such great things, such as being a millionaire, or a famous actor, or an internationally acclaimed author. These are amazing things to aspire towards in life, because having ambitions gives a sense of purpose to our lives. But then we also have to account for what our spirit wants. There lies the great imbalance of life that many of us suffer from. If you are lucky enough to be doing things that make you happy while working towards achieving your dreams then you are serving your divine life purpose.

Our ego almost always competes with our spirit for what it wants, and it almost always wins this internal tug-of-war. It’s sort of a weird place to be in because we get caught big dreams that we believe we have the ability to achieve it. And it is true, every person has the ability to achieve their biggest dreams; no one should ever dream small, especially when these dreams incorporate our talents and the activities that make us feel good. But if the ego is too much in control then sometimes these talents and activities that used to bring us so much happiness, can start to feel like a burden. It can make one feel frustrated and tired before we even start. This is why balance is always important.

Balancing our love for doing something against doing something to achieve a gain is difficult because the ego loves to run away with an idea. Say you always wanted to write a book and finally you have a brilliant idea for a book but once you start working on it you start thinking of how much money you can make of the book or how famous you will become once the book is published, and then dreaming about these amazing benefits becomes more exciting that actually working on the book. This is where the ego sets in. It’s not a bad thing to want to write a famous novel, but it does become a lower energy activity when you concentrate on what you can get in the future from doing something and you lose track of what you can get now from doing something that you love doing.

Some people will judge me for this, and think that I am putting down the want to achieve something, making it seem less than it is. I am not. All I am saying is that being far sighted about something can mean that you can’t see what’s right in front of you.

Remember the joy and love that you get from doing that thing that you always loved doing? Please don’t stop doing it.

I made that mistake, I forget the reason I did things and I got so caught up in all these future events that could make me happy that I stopped being happy today. I lost the joy I received from doing things, because the end result was so much more than today’s small happy moments. And the things that I loved to do started to feel like work, and whenever something feels like work, it stops being fun. My aunt always says that she’s the happiest while she is doing her job because her job became her hobby. It is true that she has been very successful at her job, in fact she could have been even more successful materially in terms of being promoted and receiving higher financial gains, but she refused to move from where she is because she loves being where she is.

The trick is to do what you love and success will follow. People have been saying this all throughout history, but I guess we can only listen to it when we are ready to let go of our egos’ desires and give more emphasis on doing the things that we enjoy doing.

Peace, love and happiness to all J
